DOMESTIC ARBITRATION

The development and principles of arbitration globally are discussed.

COLLABORATIONS WITH EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

In line with SHATI’s mission of promoting literacy in society, our collaborations are with institutions of higher learning to conduct Professional Diploma in Education (PDE), Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes in various disciplines.

DISPUTE RESOLUTION AND MEDIATION SKILLS TRAINING

This is an intensive training that runs for a minimum of five (5) days. It includes theories and practical sessions in the form of role-plays to equip participants with local and international competence in the field of dispute resolution and mediation.

MEDIATION ADVOCACY

This is aimed at equipping both lawyers and non-lawyers with the requisite skills to represent clients competently in mediation proceedings as mediation advocates or mediation advisors.

ARBITRATION ADVOCACY

Similar to the above, it equips the arbitrator at the early stages to develop his own arbitration practice.

ARBITRAL REGISTRARS AND SECRETARIES TRAINING.

This training equips participants with the requisite skills to function as professional alternative dispute resolution registrars and secretaries with in-depth knowledge of arbitration processes, and proceedings, in addition, to note taking, recording and drafting relevant processes of arbitration.

TRAINING ON MEDICAL DISPUTES RESOLUTION SKILLS

This is designed for medical practitioners, health workers, medical law practitioners and experts.

ONLINE DISPUTE RESOLUTION (ODR) TRAINING

Participants learn how to resolve disputes online. Participants are exposed to the various mechanisms for the resolution of disputes comprehensively, despite physical barriers. It covers various dispute-resolution mechanisms.

CHRISTIAN ADR SKILLS TRAINING

This training is targeted at Christians generally with an emphasis on Christian religious leaders and church workers. It teaches how to resolve disputes through the use of biblical principles.

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE TRAINING

This training is designed for everyone on how to manage one’s emotions and that of others. The training is not just apt for ADR practitioners only, it is recommended for young adults, adults, teachers, parents, employees, businessmen and women and diverse professionals.

TRAINING ON NEGOTIATION SKILLS AND TECHNIQUES.

This training equips participants with the requisite skills and techniques in negotiation. Negotiation is a process used in other ADR mechanisms and is relevant for all intent and purposes.

TRAINING ON RESTORATIVE JUSTICE

It is designed to help participants to develop the requisite knowledge and understanding of the scope of restorative justice and the relevance and application of ADR in restorative justice.

TRAINING ON CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY DISPUTES RESOLUTION

Construction projects are usually long transactions with high uncertainty and complexity. It involves human and non-human factors and variables. It also involves interaction between a wide range of professionals such as engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and others, including clients, contractors, subcontractors and consultants with diverse interests and ideas of how things should be done.
Disputes can exist at all levels of the construction chain such as between clients/consultants, clients/contractors, consultants/contractors and clients/subcontractors. Participants will learn how to effectively resolve disputes in the construction industry using the various ADR mechanisms.

Oladipo Tolani is a partner at Abdullahi Ibrahim & Co where he heads the Kaduna office.

He obtained his LL.B (Hons) in Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria in 1987 and was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1988.

Oladipo Tolani is a thorough-bred litigator with an uncommon flair for both civil and criminal trials; he also specializes in Commercial Law, Banking, Real Estate and Construction, and Public and Administrative Litigation. He was appointed a Notary Public for Nigeria in 1998.

He has served on various boards and until recently as a member of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association. He was a member of the Conference Planning Committee of the NBA between 2005 and 2010.

He was recently elevated into the inner bar as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria by the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee of Nigeria.

Rosecana Galadima Ankama is a lecturer with Kaduna polytechnic, department of legal studies. She is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, where she obtained her first degree in law, LL.B (Hons) and Master of Laws LL.M respectively. She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2000. She developed interest in conflict resolution as far back as her secondary school days when she served as a mediator between friends and classmates. She nurtured her interest in the practice of ADR by attending training at the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators and other ADR processes in and outside Nigeria. She is an ADR expert with a special interest in Mediation and Negotiation. Her drive for mastery and specialization has made her to further obtain a diploma certificate in Negotiation Mastery, Harvard Business School.

Rosecana mediates workplace, a range of family disputes, property, and breach of contract disputes. She also anchors conflict resolution talk shows on Liberty Radio organised by House of Justice, Kaduna. She co-developed a mediation training package for Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators.

She has published many articles on ADR and other legal matters in international and local academic journals. 

She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Nigerian Institute of Chartered of Arbitrators, CEDR (UK) trained mediator, Conflict Dynamics (South Africa) accredited mediator, International Certified Negotiator (Australia), Institute of management Consultants, International Association of Applied Psychology and a Notary Public. Ifeanyi Anago Esq.

He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Chairman of its Fellows Forum, a Fellow of the Institute of Construction Industry Arbitrators, a Registered Quantity Surveyor with QSRBN and a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

He was a Federal Government nominee to the QSRBN and was the Chairman of its Accreditation Committee, responsible for certifying all Quantity Surveying educational programmes in Nigerian Universities and Polytechnics.

He also served as the Federal Government-appointed consultant to oversee the implementation of the MDGs ‘Quickwins’ project on Health, Education and Water sectors in Anambra State.

He is a listed Neutral with the Abuja Multi-Door Court House of the Abuja High Court and is presently a sitting Arbitrator at the same court. He has served on several court-ordered Arbitral referrals and has also functioned as counsel in several Arbitrations.

He is a construction industry resource person having authored over 40 papers on various construction–related topics. Under Divine Inspiration, he propounded the concept of Mediative Conciliation as a dispute resolution model in the Construction Industry, which model has been adjudged by the Community Relations Service (CRS) of the U.S. Department of Justice, as the best model for resolving school-based hate crimes in the United States of America. This novel concept has now been Trademark- Patented as Anago Mediative Conciliation with certificate N0. 92036.

He has been a very active participant in Engineering and Construction practice spanning over 28 years as a respected Quantity Surveying and Total Cost Management Consultant. He was the Executive Director-Contract/Vice-Chairman with Paul-B Nigeria Plc; a notable building and civil engineering company. He is currently a member of the Infrastructure Policy Commission of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and serves on its Roads and Rails sectoral working groups.

He was an Adjunct Professor at Florida International University where he taught county mediation training programs. Lloyd frequently lectures of landlord/tenant disputes, small claims disputes and mediation.

Lloyd is a member of the Palm Beach County Bar Association where he is the co-chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee and is a member of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association where he is the co-chair of the Mentorship Committee. Lloyd is serving his fifth term on The Florida Bar Small Claims Rules Committee and is the former Chair. He is an approved program mediator for The Florida Bar assisting attorneys and their former clients to resolve their fee disputes. The Florida Bar’s Grievance Mediation program is provided at no charge to help clients and attorneys solve disputes. He is currently the pioneer director of the Directorate of Laboratory Management and Maintenance of the university and had previously played key roles in pioneering the establishment of the first-ever well-equipped Kaduna State University Molecular Biology Laboratory. He has served the university in many capacities at senate and management cadres, as well as in many of its committees. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka. In addition, he has a Master of Science degree and a Doctor of Philosophy, both from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, on the potential of developing vaccine constructs against malaria pathogen, research he partly carried out at the Center of Glycobiology, Universitate de Bremen, Germany.  He has lectured many biochemistry courses and supervised original research at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Biochemistry and Biotechnology with attendant scholarly scientific articles to his credit. He is a member of several scientific societies which he served in different leadership and committee responsibilities. 

Professor Timothy Bulus is a community development person and has provided a lot of community services across fields and communities. He was a visiting lecturer at the Department of Biological Science, Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna, where he helped in the establishment of  M.Sc. Biotechnology programme. He was a visiting research scientist at the Nigerian Institute for Trypanosomiasis, Kaduna, and had provided research training and mentoring opportunities to younger researchers in the institute. He has been equally involved in several other society training in the capacity development of younger scientists.   Because of his leadership roles and his passionate interest in peaceful co-existence, he has recently undergone the basic intensive, theoretical and practical training course in Dispute Resolution Skills and Proficiency with the Settlement House ADR Training Institute (SHATI) and attended capacity building workshop for academic leaders at central State University, Ohio, USA. Prof. Timothy Bulus is practically involved in conflict management within the University and has participated in resolving several conflicts and disputes among staff and students such as theft cases, online platform-related disputes, examination irregularities and intra-union conflicts.

He is a principled, fair-minded and amiable teacher and leader. On the basis of his competence and trustworthiness, he was invited by Bowen University for a sabbatical leave during which helped to restructure and stabilize the Biochemistry Programme and has, on several occasions, been invited to examine undergraduate and postgraduate students of Ahmadu Bello University, University of Jos and Bingham University. He has written letters of recommendation and served as a guarantor to many youths. He is a Christian teacher, counsellor and leader.  He is a patron and advisor to student organizations and is happily married to Mrs Martha and their marriage is blessed with three children: Blessed (12), Joseph (10) and Grace (5).

Dorothy Wobin Avongpeter In addition to her bachelor’s degree in law, obtained a master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Kanuna State, University, Kaduna.

She was into Private Legal Practice with B.S.C Asogwa & Co, before joining the Kaduna State Judiciary (High Court of Justice) as a Legal Research Officer. She vast and experienced in research work generally including but not limited to legal research.

She is presently a Senior Registrar I, at the National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Kaduna Division, having transferred her service from Kaduna State Judiciary.

She has undergone n intensive theoretical and practical training in Dispute Resolution Skills and Proficiency, with the Settlement House ADR Training Institute (SHATI).

Nanchang Janet obtained her National Diploma Certificate in Mass Communication from Kaduna Polytechnic in 2015.

She also obtained a Degree Certificate in Mass Communication from the prestigious University of Jos in 2019 as the second-best graduating student from her department.

She is passionate about education which led her to undertake a Professional Diploma in Education course in order to become a certified professional teacher. Nanchang Janet also holds a Diploma in Computer Application and she specializes in MS Word. 

She served as a Litigation Secretary to F.I. Salami & Co. for about a  period of five (5) years and has been the Litigation Secretary and Human Resource Personnel to N. Nanchang & Co. since 2017 where she gained the art and skills of drafting legal instruments; legal processes, sale agreement, deed of assignment and letters.

In utilizing her Mass Communication skills, she worked as a Direct Sales Agent for Fidelity Bank Plc.

She loves investigative journalism which led her to carry out her media/ industrial attachment with the Ministry of Information and Home Affairs, Kaduna State and with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Kaduna State where she served in the News Room. 

She is also passionate about spreading the gospel of ADR as well as representing clients in Mediation proceedings, consequent upon which she undertook the Mediation Advocates/Advisors training with the Standing Conference of Mediation Advocate and she is duly inducted/certified as an accredited Associate Mediation Advisor, United Kingdom (ASCMA, UK).

Gideon Abioye Oyedeji

Gideon is a lecturer with the General Studies Unit, Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna. He has extensive experience in English Language teaching from nursery to undergraduate levels. He is a Ph.D. researcher and a member of Literary Association of Nigeria. Also, he is a young adult leader in Chapel of Goodnews Kaduna, an interdenominational Christian Assembly deeply involved in missions. He volunteered as a field researcher with United Nations Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in 2014. He is also the program manager of Precious Fountain Foundation, where he coordinates educational interventions for school children and undergraduates. As a scholar, Gideon has published in reputable national and international journals. He has interest in communications skills, pragmatics, and stylistic studies.
